What DevEx Actually Is (and What It Is Not)
If you have spent any real time building on Roblox, you already know the feeling. Your game pass finally pops off after three months of tweaking the shop UI. Group funds tick upward. You open Roblox Studio at 11pm "just to fix one bug" and end up shipping a whole new zone. DevEx is how that grind turns into rent money, a new mic, or the GPU upgrade that stops your terrain tools from choking.
The Developer Exchange Program (DevEx) is Roblox's official cash-out path. You exchange Earned Robux for real currency through Roblox's DevEx portal (powered by Tipalti). It is not a grey-market Robux trade. It is not swapping with a random Discord middleman. It is the legitimate pipeline Roblox documents on the Creator Hub, and it comes with rules you should respect if you want repeat payouts.
What DevEx is not: a way to liquidate Robux you bought with a credit card, got from a gift card, received through Premium's monthly stipend, or picked up via trading limiteds. Those Robux live in a different bucket. Only Earned Robux from qualifying creator activity counts, and Roblox still reviews the sources during each request.
DevEx exchange rates at a glance
Roblox currently runs three cash-out rates depending on when and how the Robux was earned. Your payout can mix rates if your balance spans multiple buckets.
| Rate name | USD per R$ | 30,000 R$ pays | Applies to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (new) | $0.0038 | $114.00 | Earned Robux from Sep 5, 2025, 10:00 AM PT onward |
| Legacy (old) | $0.0035 | $105.00 | Earned Robux earned before that cutoff |
| US 18+ premium | $0.0054 | $162.00 | Eligible in-game spend from age-verified 18+ US players (live Jun 8, 2026) |

Cash-out order matters more than most devs realize
When you hit Cash Out, Roblox does not just multiply your whole balance by one number. It pulls from specific buckets in a fixed order:
- US 18+ rate Robux cashes out first (highest value per Robux).
- Legacy rate Robux (pre Sep 2025) must fully clear before new-rate Robux can cash out.
- Standard new-rate Robux cashes out after legacy balances are gone.
If you are sitting on 30,000 legacy Robux and 200,000 new-rate Robux, your first request only pays at $0.0035 until that legacy chunk is gone. Plan around that if you are forecasting income.
Earned Robux vs Everything Else
Counts as Earned Robux
- Game passes, developer products, subscriptions inside your experience
- Paid access and private server fees tied to your game
- Creator Store sales (plugins, models you built)
- Avatar item sales on the Marketplace (UGC)
- Creator Rewards for engagement milestones
- Group payouts from bona fide sales (Roblox validates sources)
Does NOT count
- Robux bought directly or via gift cards
- Premium monthly Robux grant
- Trading or reselling limited items
- Robux transfers between accounts
- Passes on template games with no real visits
- Robux tied to moderated or Terms-violating content
Check your balance
Your Earned Robux estimate lives on the DevEx dashboard in Creator Hub. Treat it as a guide, not a guarantee. Roblox can lag up to 72 hours behind fresh sales, and the review team still validates every source at cash-out time.
Tip: you can request DevEx above the displayed balance if you know sales are pendingMarketplace Fee vs DevEx Rate
Two different cuts confuse even experienced creators. Here is the clean breakdown.
Step 1: Marketplace fee (30%)
When a player buys your 500 R$ game pass, Roblox keeps 150 R$ and you receive 350 R$ as Earned Robux. That 70/30 split happens at the point of sale inside the platform.
Step 2: DevEx conversion
Those 350 Earned Robux are not worth $3.50 USD. At the standard rate they convert to about $1.33 USD. DevEx is a separate exchange rate, not another 30% tax on top.
Player pays: 1,000 R$
You receive: 700 R$ (after 30% marketplace fee)
DevEx at standard rate: 700 × $0.0038 = $2.66 USD
Effective take-home: roughly $0.00266 per Robux the player spent
How to Submit a DevEx Request
Hit the thresholds
You need 30,000+ Earned Robux, verified email, age 13+, valid DevEx portal account, and tax form (W-9 for US, W-8 for non-US). Stay in good standing on Terms and Community Standards.
Open Creator Hub → Finances
Click Cash Out, fill the form with your legal name (nicknames get requests rejected), specify how much to exchange, and submit. Robux leaves your account during review.
Complete Tipalti setup
First-timers get a portal invite email. You have one week to add payment method and tax info. Miss the window and the request auto-declines with a Robux refund.
Processing is roughly 10 business days for first requests and 5 business days for returning creators. Weekends and holidays do not count. Bank transfer timing depends on your payment provider after Roblox releases funds.
Scenarios Creators Actually Run
Hitting exactly 30,000 Earned Robux
You finally cross the minimum with a small simulator that sells a 99 R$ speed boost. At the standard rate, 30,000 R$ cashes out to $114 USD before fees. That is not life-changing money, but it proves the loop works: build, monetize, cash out legally.
500,000 Earned Robux monthly
A horror game with a 799 R$ private server pass and steady weekend peaks might land here. Remember you only get one completed cash-out per calendar month, so batch your request thoughtfully.
100,000 R$ at the premium rate
If your experience qualifies and the spend came from age-verified 18+ US players on eligible products (passes, dev products, subscriptions, private servers), the higher rate applies to that bucket. Avatar item sales in-game do not qualify for this rate.
Old-rate Robux still in your wallet
Veterans who earned before September 2025 may still have legacy-rate Robux sitting there. Cash those out first at $0.0035 before your newer earnings at $0.0038 can move. Mixing them up in spreadsheets is how forecast errors happen.
Terms Every DevEx Candidate Should Know
If you have ever lurked on DevForum or argued about R15 collision in a Discord server, you have heard most of these. If not, bookmark this section.
Robux generated from qualifying creator sales and rewards. The only Robux type DevEx converts.
A one-time purchase that grants a permanent perk inside an experience. Classic monetization for simulators, RPGs, and tycoons.
Consumable purchases players can buy repeatedly. Think currency packs, revives, or temporary boosts.
Paid reserved server instance for a game. Popular for roleplay communities and friend groups who want a closed session.
Robux distributed to creators based on Premium subscriber engagement time in their experiences. Separate from direct purchases but still platform-managed earnings.
Roblox incentive program paying Earned Robux for driving engagement and audience growth. Check current eligibility on Creator Hub.
Revenue distributed from a Roblox group treasury to members. Counts if the underlying group earnings were legitimate sales.
Third-party payment portal where you add bank details and tax forms after Roblox approves your request.
Roblox's 30% cut on in-experience sales. You keep 70% before any DevEx conversion happens.
Higher $0.0054/R$ rate for eligible spend from age-verified adult US players in qualifying games. Requires R15 avatars and compliance with program rules.
Mistakes That Cost Creators Money
Using a fake or nickname on the DevEx form
Roblox matches your legal name against tax records and prior requests. A mismatch triggers rejection. Contact Support instead of spamming new requests with tweaked names.
Can delay payouts by weeksAssuming all Robux in your account is Earned Robux
Your top-line Robux balance mixes buckets. Only the Earned portion on the DevEx dashboard matters. Buying 50,000 R$ and trying to DevEx it will not work.
Request rejectionMissing the one-week Tipalti registration window
First-time creators get an email invite. Ignore it for seven days and Roblox auto-declines the request. Your Robux comes back, but you lose time.
Full restart of the processForecasting with the Robux purchase price instead of DevEx rate
Players pay roughly $0.0125 per Robux when buying direct (varies by bundle). DevEx pays $0.0038 per Earned Robux at standard rate, and that is after you already lost 30% on the sale. Revenue math based on store prices will overshoot by 3x or more.
Bad business planningDevEx Rate vs Robux Purchase Price
New creators often compare DevEx to the price tag on the Robux buy page and feel cheated. That comparison mixes retail pricing (what players pay Roblox) with wholesale creator payout (what Roblox pays you). They are different products in Roblox's economy.
| Metric | Typical value | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Player buys Robux (approx.) | ~$0.0125 / R$ | Varies by bundle size and region |
| Creator receives after 30% fee | 70% of list price | On a 100 R$ pass, you get 70 R$ |
| DevEx standard rate | $0.0038 / Earned R$ | Official cash-out rate (2025 onward earnings) |
| Effective USD per player Robux spent | ~$0.00266 / R$ spent | 70% × $0.0038 on a standard sale chain |
Roblox runs infrastructure, payment processing, moderation, discovery, and platform trust. The gap between buy price and DevEx rate funds that. Understanding the chain helps you price game passes realistically instead of expecting dollar-for-dollar conversion.
